Introduction

An investment-linked policy (“ILP”), also known as a unit-linked or asset-linked policy, is a type of life insurance that combines insurance coverage with investment opportunities. This type of policy offers policyholders the ability to invest in a variety of assets, such as stocks, bonds, and mutual funds, through the policy, with the potential for higher returns than traditional insurance policies.

Types of ILP

There are 2 types of ILPs. If you are looking for wealth accumulation, you may consider investment-focused ILP, while you should consider protection-focused ILP if you are looking for wealth protection.

What does the product cover?

In an investment-linked policy, a portion of the premium is used to provide life insurance coverage (only for protection-focused ILP), while the rest is invested in the chosen assets. The policyholder has the option to change the investment portfolio, subject to the terms and conditions of the policy. The investment returns are credited to the policy, and the policy’s cash value can grow over time.
